Country singer and songwriter Tom T. Hall was born on this day in 1936. Nicknmed "The Storyteller" because many of his songs told stories, he wrote twelve #1 hits and 26 more that reached the Top Ten, including his most famous song, "Harper Valley PTA." "I Love" reached #1 on the US and Canadian Country charts as well as reaching #12 on the Hot 100 in the US and #13 on the Hot Singles chart in Canada. It’s one of my favorites…
Mine is ‘Old Dogs and Children, and watermelon wine.

My husband (just turned 70 to put this in time-perspective) went to an out-of-town grocery store with me a couple of months ago. He fancies himself quite witty and funny. 😉 The cashier and the grocery bagger were about 20, give or take. Hubs engaged them in conversation.
Hubs: How are you fellows today?
Cashier: Good. You?
Hubs: Good. It’s a nice day after the cold spell we had.
Bagger: I like days like this. Spring is on its way.
Hubs: Know what I like?
Both: No. What?
Hubs: Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, and more money. (Grinning idiotically)
Both:
Me:
Bagger: HaHa (stricken, looking for a way out – hasn’t a clue that these are song lyrics)
Hubs: (grinning idiotically)
Me to the young men: He doesn’t get to go in public often… 🤦♀️

I think that version was out there. Either way, it’s a wonderful song. And your husband is funny…

That’s what I like about it. Tom T. Hall has written some great songs. Leo Kottke does one by him called “Pamela Brown” that I like, too.
