Singer, songwriter, actor, and comedian George Formby was born on this day in 1904. I discovered George a few years ago and really have come to appreciate his sense of humor as well as his incredible ukulele and banjolele playing and singing. He was from Wigan, Lancashire in England, and his voice is typical of that area. The Beatles, especially George, were fans of his, and at the end of "Free As A Bird" there’s a man playing the ukulele and saying "turned out nice again," Formby’s catchphrase. "With My Little Stick Of Blackpool Rock" was recorded as a single in 1937; it was at one time banned from BBC Radio for its sexual innuendoes…
He is fin to listen to and watch. I think quite a few famous people copied his style.
